This data profile describes the Residential Mobility and Energy Performance Certificate (RMEPC) datasets held by GeoDS, which are created through original GeoDS research. The index data are compiled through an analysis involving the linkage of GeoDS SmartCensus (previously known as the Linked Consumer Registers) and Domestic Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) at property level. The data provide average and median changes in energy performance ratings, potential energy performance ratings, and total floor area of residences involved in moves out of, into, and within each LSOA21-equivalent small area in Great Britain (GB) between 2009 and 2026.
These research-ready datasets allow researchers to explore changes in residential mobility at the local scale, along with changes in housing energy performance and space. Both the average and median changes in energy performance rating, potential energy performance rating, and total floor area of residences involved in moves are provided for adult individuals moving out of, moving into, and moving within each LSOA21-equivalent small area in GB.
## Content
The RMEPC (LSOA) is divided into three categories of datasets: “move out” (mo), “move into” (mi), and “move within” (wi) for each LSOA21-equivalent small area in GB. For each type of mover, one dataset provides statistics for the entire period from 2009 to 2026, while the other provides statistics for three-year intervals within this period. All changes are calculated as the value at the destination dwelling minus the value at the origin dwelling. Statistics for units with fewer than five movers are suppressed and marked with an asterisk (*). Field-level metadata are provided at the end of this profile document. These datasets are aggregates resulting from linking GeoDS SmartCensus and EPC data.

The RMEPC move out (rmepc_lsoa21_mo) data provide average and median changes in energy performance rating, potential energy performance rating, and total floor area for the residences of individuals moving from one small area to another, with results attributed to the origin area. The rmepc_lsoa21_mo_threeyears dataset provides the same statistics for three-year intervals between 2009 and 2026.

The RMEPC move into (rmepc_lsoa21_mi) data provide average and median changes in energy performance rating, potential energy performance rating, and total floor area for the residences of individuals moving from one small area to another, with results attributed to the destination area. The rmepc_lsoa21_mi_threeyears dataset provides the same statistics for three-year intervals between 2009 and 2026.
* RMEPC move within
The RMEPC move within (rmepc_lsoa21_wi) data provide average and median changes in energy performance rating, potential energy performance rating, and total floor area for the residences of individuals whose origin and destination are within the same small area. The rmepc_lsoa21_wi_threeyears dataset provides the same statistics for three-year intervals between 2009 and 2026.
## Quality, Representation and Bias
The underpinning data comprise linked GeoDS SmartCensus and EPC records, which establish links between Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and the origin and destination addresses of individual movers within the SmartCensus migration model. RMEPC therefore includes only residential moves for which suitable EPC information can be linked to both the origin and destination properties. EPC availability and successful linkage may vary across geography and time, and the resulting RMEPC estimates may therefore not represent all residential moves recorded in the SmartCensus.
