The Ageing in Place Classification (AiPC)

Dataset

Summary

Description:
The Ageing in Place Classification (AiPC) is the first-of-its-kind bespoke geodemographic classification in England targeting the population aged 50 years old and older. The AiPC classifies the population aged 50 years old and older in England into distinctive groups. The classification is integrates multiple high quality data sources including the ONS 2011 Census, British Population Survey (BPS), Access to Healthy Assets & Hazards (AHAH), NHS English Prescribing Data (EPD), and Registered Patient (RP) data. ## Content The geodemographic consists of two tiers. Tier 1, the Supergroup, contains five clusters providing the most generic descriptions of the older population (aged 50 and over) and their living environments. Tier 2, the Groups, further differentiates within the five clusters of Tier 1 giving an additional 13 clusters. These data are available at LSOA11CD level. Data can be downloaded from the bottom of this page, as the file ‘Data: Ageing in place classification’. For detailed description of the columns contained within the data, see the Variable Dictionary; and for an overview of the characteristics of the data, see the Data Summary. These files can be downloaded from the bottom of this page. ## Quality, Representation and Bias The classification is based on multiple high quality data sources including ONS 2011 Census, British Population Survey (BPS), Access to Healthy Assets & Hazards (AHAH), NHS English Prescribing Data (EPD), Registered Patient (RP). A clustering k-means algorithm is used to group the different variables in Supergroup and Group. The classification covers all LSOAs in England.
